Read Damnit!

A couple of months ago I got myself a puppy. She has just turned 6 months old. Unlike most other puppies her age, she is massive. To be expected with a Scottish Deerhound though :p

She has this annoying habit of deciding to bug the shit out of you. She starts by trying to grab your arms, legs or ears with her mouth. If you pull away she then smacks you with her stupidly large paws and then starts barking at you. She has realised we can hide our arms from getting chewed (she still goes for your ears though) and has now started using her front teeth to nip at you. It's all gentle and playful but she is a very large dog and she can catch you sometimes just enough to hurt.

I've been told to ignore her barking and chewing as she is just wanting attention but when you have a 3ft puppy, who thinks she is a lap dog, bearing down on you, it's pretty hard to ignore. Puppies barking and wanting to play is totally normal but does anyone know a way to make her stop without hitting her? I need some good training techniques. I've had dogs all my life but never had a puppy so my dog knowledge seems as useless as stephen hawkings playing twister :(

Any advice is mucho appreciated :D

A bit late I know :D

A nice big Marrow bone is good for pups to munch on and keep them occupied.( my place looks like a graveyard from time to time)
Try a bit of tracking..hide things for it too find, tires them out mentally and can be done indoors. There are also activity toys for dogs.
Set the ground rules of "your space" if my young dog pesters me when it is not pay time, I stretch out my arms or legs as a barrier with command NO! (tones in command voice important don't forget you are flock leader)
Turning your back on them can stop them hopping up for attention. It will eventually work :giggle:
Always reward with "good Behaviour".
Cry or peep loudly if they nip, they hear this as young pups in the thier flock and "should realise it hurts" lol
