Read Damnit!

Just when I thought I had computers all figured out, something happens that I didn't think would be possible and I bet it's a new one on you.

So I followed a bad link by mistake and it decided to try and fool me that it was doing a windows scan and that I had virus's. You know the total scam ones!. Anyway, Java popped up for a split second and then vanished. I checked my startup and a couple of things were installed and set to fire away. Deleting them made them just re-create themselves again. Reboot made other startup process's fail. Spyware clean and anti virus didn't help so I decided to roll back to earlier registry config. Usually that helps but not this time, I still had things failing on restart.

Out came my back up disc and I wiped my comp. I installed everything I had on before except firefox and a flash update to version 10. Everything was going fine. I installed firefox then restarted and got 1 startup process fail. Another restart and I have all of the process's that failed the 1st time failing again. I even have some of the dodgy shit starting up that I couldn't remove.

Firefox to blame? I'm not sure, I never had any probs until I installed the new firefox update but I noticed it activates Java. Java was that weird popup I originally saw before I formatted. Until I clicked on this bad link, everything was working fine. Putting it all back after a format and I get the probs again. Have I found a virus that survives a complete format and starts again when your back to your usual setup? I've never come across something that doesn't get wiped with a format.

Luckily I dont have any of the dodgy shit starting up but my ATI centre and some other services won't start up and just crash. So now I'm left wondering is it firefox or java but both were always fine. This has be baffled :confused:


**UPDATE*** I uninstalled firefox and did a registry clean. I then rolled back to a saved registry I made just before I installed firefox and guess what? everything is working and starting. Either the new firefox is messed up big style or the java it uses is activating something bad on my comp. The mystery deepens
